Abstract
678,635. Electric incandescent lamps with internal screens. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 6, 1950 [April 13, 1949], No. 8761/50. Class 39(ii) In a lamp for use in a vehicle headlight and of the kind comprising at least two filaments, one of which is associated with a cup-shaped screen to produce a dipped beam, both filaments are located on the longitudinal axis passing through the lamp cap, one in front of the other, and the screened filament 3, which is located substantially in the plane of the two lateral edges of the screen 4, has the shape of a V with its apex pointing towards the lamp cap 5. As shown the main filament 2 is also V-shaped, with its apex directed away from the lamp cap. The positions of the filaments 2, 3 relative to the lamp cap may be reversed, i.e. the screened filament 3 may be the one nearer to the cap. The angle subtended between one of the arms of the V-shaped filament 3 and the axis of the lamp lies between 15 degrees and 60 degrees and is preferably 30 degrees; one arm of the V may be longer than the other.
