Description
SERVICE APPARATUS AND SERVICE METHOD USING INFORMATION OF GIFT CERTIFICATE, AND COMPUTER READABLE RECORD MEDIUM THEREOF
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a service apparatus and a service method using internet, and more particularly, to a service apparatus and a service method using information of gift certificates, and a record medium. Background Art
[2] Generally, gift certificates are bearer securities with fixed amounts of money that can be exchanged with goods. Such gift certificates are used as a gift and issued by department stores or noted shoe makers. Also, recently, book gift certificates, culture gift certificates, oil gift certificates, dining gift certificates and the like have come into wide use. The gift certificates are issued in a paper type or a card type.
[3] The gift certificates are being issued and distributed by many stores, such as department stores which always deal with a variety of goods, since receivers of the gift certificates can purchase goods to their tastes at convenient time.
[4] From the viewpoint of the gift certificate issuer (or the gift certificate issuing company), the unrealized amounts of the gift certificates play a role as interest-free borrowings, which contribute to management of the issuer and moreover, increase the prestige and credit quality of the gift certificate issuer.
[5] However, gift certificate owners can limitedly use the gift certificates only in some affiliated stores specified on the gift certificates. Also, there are problems in that the use of the gift certificates is restricted by time since the gift certificates can be used only within the available period, and that the owners of the gift certificates should keep the gift certificates until they use them. Further, there is no appropriate relief method against decline in value of the gift certificates caused by insolvency of the gift certificate issuing companies. Disclosure of Invention
Technical Problem
[6] Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a service apparatus and a service method which can solve the restriction in use of the gift certificates, the restriction in time of the gift certificates and problems in safely keeping the gift certificates. Technical Solution
[7] According to the service apparatus and the service method using gift certificate information of the present invention, a gift certificate is converted into cyber money in accordance with a current rate on the reserve day, on the basis of the information of the gift certificate and reserved in an account of a user. Also, when the user wishes to exchange the reserved cyber money for another gift certificate, the reserved cyber money is exchanged for the new gift certificate after addition or subtraction of a cyber money corresponding to the gift certificate to be purchased in accordance with a current rate of the gift certificate at the time when the gift certificate is purchased with the reserved cyber money.
[8] To accomplish the above objects of the present invention, the service method using gift certificate information comprises the steps of receiving information of a first gift certificate and information of a user, reading a current rate of the first gift certificate from a current rate database on the basis of the received information of the first gift certificate, and calculating a first cyber money on the basis of the received information of the first gift certificate and the current rate of the first gift certificate and reserving the calculated first cyber money in a user account of a user account database.
[9] The information of the first gift certificate includes at least one of an issuing company, a face value, an issue number of the gift certificate and an expiry date.
[10] The service method using gift certificate information comprises the steps of receiving information of a second gift certificate which the user wishes to purchase and the information of the user, reading a current rate of the second gift certificate from the current rate database on the basis of the received information of the second gift certificate, and calculating a second cyber money to be exchanged on the basis of the received information of the second gift certificate and the current rate of the second gift certificate, comparing amounts of the cyber money reserved in the user account of the user account database and the second cyber money and transmitting at least one of whether the second gift certificate is issuable and the second cyber money as a result of the comparison to a terminal from which the information of the second gift certificate is input. The information of the second gift certificate includes an issuing company and a face value.
[11] The service apparatus using gift certificate information comprises a current rate database for storing a current rate of a first gift certificate and a current rate of a second gift certificate, a user account database for storing a cyber money account of a user, and a cyber money calculation module for receiving information of the first gift certificate and information of the user, reading the current rate of the first gift certificate from the current rate database on the basis of the received information of the first gift certificate, calculating a first cyber money on the basis of the information of the first gift certificate and the current rate of the first gift certificate and reserving the
calculated first cyber money in a user account of the user account database.
[12] The cyber money calculation module receives the information of the user and information of the second gift certificate which the user wishes to purchase, reads the current rate of the second gift certificate from the current rate database on the basis of the received information of the second gift certificate, calculates a second cyber money to be exchanged on the basis of the information of the second gift certificate and the current rate of the second gift certificate, subtracts the second cyber money from the cyber money reserved in the user account of the user account database and transmits at least one of whether the second gift certificate is is suable and the second cyber money to a terminal from which the information of the second gift certificate is input.
[13] The cyber money calculation module receives the information of the user and an amount of money of a prepaid card which the user wishes to issue, reads an amount of the cyber money reserved in the user account on the basis of the received information of the user, comparing the amount of the reserved cyber money and the amount which the user wishes to issue and transmits whether the prepaid card is issuable to a terminal from which the information of the user is input.
Advantageous Effects
[14] As described above, by the service apparatus and the service method using gift certificate information according to the present invention, it is possible to estimate the value of gift certificates in terms of money, to reserve the appraisal in the form of cyber money in a user account and to use the reserved cyber money as means for exchange and payment, like cash. [15] By the service apparatus and the service method using gift certificate information according to the present invention, it is possible for a owner of a gift certificate to freely change the issuing company, the face value or the available period of the gift certificate.

invention are referred to in order to gain a sufficient understanding of the present invention, the merits thereof, and the objectives accomplished by the implementation of the present invention.
[21] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail by explaining preferred embodiments of the invention with reference to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals in the drawings denote like elements.
[22] FIG. 1 shows a block diagram of a service system according to an embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIG. 1, the service system 100 comprises at least one terminal 110 or 170, a service apparatus (also referred to as "server") 130, a gift certificate issuing company server 150 and an affiliated store terminal 190.
[23] The service apparatus 130 comprises a current rate database 131, a user account database 133, and a cyber money calculation module 135.
[24] The current rate database 131 stores current rates of various gift certificates including a current rate of a first gift certificate and a current rate of a second gift certificate.
[25] The term "current rate" as used herein refers to a discount rate or an exchange rate, and a relative exchange rate of a gift certificate. The current rate is preferably determined by awareness and credit quality of a gift certificate issuing company, preference of consumers to gift certificates, easiness in exchange of gift certificates, seasonal factors and the remaining days till the expiry date, like stock quotations. The user account database 133 stores a cyber money account of each user.
[26] FIG. 2 shows a first example of an input frame into which information of a first gift certificate is input according to an embodiment of the present invention. The input frame 200 is produced and displayed by a prescribed client program recorded in the terminal 110 or 170. The predetermined client program is downloaded from the server 130 to the corresponding terminal 110 or 170, or distributed as a stand-alone program recorded in a storage medium such as CD or disks.
[27] The input frame 200 shown in FIG. 2 is a frame appearing when information of a user (for example, an account number of a user (also referred to as "a user account"), a password, a resident registration number, etc.), stored in a magnetic card, an IC card or a RF card, is read through a prescribed card reader connected to the terminal 110 and a password is input through the terminal 110 or the prescribed card reader.
[28] Referring to FIG. 2, the input frame 200 comprises an issuing company input box
210 having a button 211 for selecting and inputting information on an issuing company, a face value input box 220 having a button 221 for selecting and inputting a face value (also referred to as "par value" or "denomination"), an input box 230 for inputting a gift certificate issue number (or "serial number") and an input box 240 for inputting an expiry date.
[29] When the button 211 is clicked, a list of gift certificate issuing companies such as department stores, shoe makers, cultural organizations, book stores, oil companies, dining restaurants (for example, Lotte Department Store, Hyundai Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, Kumkang Shoe Company, Paris Baguette etc.) appears. Therefore, a person who is inputting the information of the first gift certificate may select and input an issuing company from the list.
[30] When the button 221 is clicked, a list of face values of gift certificates (for example,
5,000 Korean Won, 10,000 Korean Won, 50,000 Korean Won, 100,000 Korean Won, 300,000 Korean Won, etc.) appears. Therefore, a person who is inputting the information of the first gift certificate may select and input a face value from the list.
[31] In another embodiment, a person who is inputting the information of the first gift certificate may directly input an issuing company in the issuing company input box 210 or directly input a face value in the face value input box 220.
[32] If the terminal 110 is a PC used by a customer having the gift certificate, the input frame (not shown), into which the information of the first gift certificate is input, may include corresponding boxes for input of information to verify the customer himself (or herself) including an account number, a password and a resident registration number, and information of the gift certificate including an issuing company, a face value, a gift certificate issue number and an expiry date. Thus, the graphical user interface to be displayed on the terminal 110 or 170 for input of the information on the user and the information on the gift certification may have various embodiments.
[33] FIG. 3 shows a second example of an input frame into which information of a first gift certificate is input according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[34] The input frame 200' shown in FIG. 3 is a frame appearing when an account of a user is directly input through the terminal 110. Therefore, the input box 200' further has an input box 310 for the account number. The terminal 110 may be connected to a separate input device (not shown) through which a password of a user account is input.
[35] When a confirm button 250 is clicked, the information of the first gift certificate including at least one of an issuing company, a face value, a gift certificate issue number and an expiry date, and the information of the user including a user account number (also referred to as a user account), a password and a resident registration number are transmitted to the cyber money calculation module 135 through a wire or wireless communication network (111 step).
[36] The cyber money calculation module 135 receives the information of the first gift certificate and the information of the user input through the terminal 110, reads a current rate of the first gift certificate from the current rate database 131 on the basis of the received information of the first gift certificate, calculates a first cyber money on the basis of the information of the first gift certificate and the current rate of the first
gift certificate and reserves the calculated first cyber money in the user account of the user account database 133. The current rate of the first gift certificate is updated on a daily or hourly basis by an operator of the service apparatus 130 or automatically.
[37] Also, the cyber money calculation module 135 receives the information of the user input through the terminal 110 and information of a prepaid card which the user wishes to issue (for example, an amount of money) (121 step), reads the amount of the cyber money reserved in the user account of the user account database 133 on the basis of the received information of the user, subtracts the amount which the user wishes to issue from the reserved cyber money, stores the balance in the user account of the user account database 133, and transmits whether the prepaid card is issuable to the terminal 173 (123 step).
[38] The issuance may be presented by "issuable" or "not issuable" (for example, lack of the balance).
[39] The service apparatus 130 may further comprise a gift certificate check module 137 for judging the genuineness of the gift certificate.
[40] The gift certificate check module 137 receives the information of the first gift certificate (for example, at least one of an issuing company, a face value, a gift certificate issue number and an expiry date) input through the terminal 110 and transmits the received information of the first gift certificate to examine the genuineness of the first gift certificate to a gift certificate issuing company server 150 which manages the information of the first gift certificate through a wire/wireless communication network (141 step).
[41] The gift certificate issuing company server 150 judges the genuineness of the first gift certificate on the basis of the information of the first gift certificate and transmits the genuineness verification information to the gift certificate check module 137 (143 step).
[42] The gift certificate check module 137 receives the genuineness verification information output from the gift certificate issuing company server 150 and transmits the received genuineness verification information to the cyber money calculation module 135.
[43] The cyber money calculation module 135 reads a current rate of the first gift certificate from the current rate database 131 in response to the genuineness verification information and the information of the first gift certificate, calculates a first cyber money on the basis of the information of the first gift certificate and the current rate of the first gift certificate and reserves the calculated first cyber money in the user account of the user account database 133. The user account is managed like a general bank account.
[44] The cyber money calculation module 135 receives information of the user and in-
formation of a second gift certificate, which the user wishes to purchase, input through the terminal 170 (171 step), reads a current rate of the second gift certificate from the current rate database 131 on the basis of the received information of the second gift certificate, calculates a second cyber money to be exchanged on the basis of the information of the second gift certificate and the current rate of the second gift certificate, adds or subtracts the second cyber money to or from the cyber money reserved in the user account of the user account database 133, stores the balance in the user account of the user account database 133 and transmits whether the second gift certificate is issuable or the second cyber money to the terminal 170 (173 step).
[45] When a gift certificate owner exchanges a gift certificate for cyber money, reserves the cyber money and then purchases another gift certificate or issues a prepaid card within the reserved cyber money in the same spot, the terminal 110 and the terminal 170 may be the same terminal.
[46] FIG. 4 shows an example of an input frame into which information of a second gift certificate is input according to an embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIG. 4, the input frame 400 comprises an issuing company input box 410 having a button 411 for selecting and inputting an issuing company and a face value input box 420 having a button 421 for selecting and inputting a face value. The information of the second gift certificate includes information of the issuing company and information of the face value.
[47] Referring to FIG. 1 to FIG. 4, the procedure in which a user named "Kim Jin-gon reserves a first gift certificate of 100,000 Korean Won, issued by Gift Department Store with one month left to the expiry date as cyber money and purchases a second gift certificate of 50,000 Korean Won issued by Gift Oil Company using the reserved cyber money in another gift certificate exchange market will be described as follows.
[48] The terminal 110 in a gift certificate exchange market transmits information of a first gift certificate presented by Kim Jin-gon (for example, Gift Department Store as an issuing company, 100,000 Korean Won as a face value, 123-456-789 as a gift certificate issue number and 2005.1.10 as an expiry date) and information of the user (for example, Kim Jin-gon, an account number and a password) to the cyber money calculation module 135 (111 step). The information of the user means minimum information needed in the process for verifying the user himself (or herself) or the process for identifying the real name.
[49] The cyber money calculation module 135 reads a current rate of the first gift certificate (for example, -3%) from the current rate database 131 on the basis of the received information of the first gift certificate (for example, Gift Department Store, 100,000 Korean Won, 123-456-789 and 2005.1.10). If the remaining available period is shorter, the current rate drops more. If more time remains to the expiry date, the
current rate increases.
[50] The cyber money calculation module 135 calculates a first cyber money (for example, 97,000 Korean Won) on the basis of the received information of the first gift certificate (for example, Gift Department Store, 100,000 Korean Won, 123-456-789 and 2005.1.10) and the current rate of the first gift certificate (for example, -3%) and reserved the calculated first cyber money (for example, 97,000 Korean Won) in a account of the user (for example, Kim Jin-gon) of a user account database 133.
[51] Then, if Kim Jin-gon wishes to purchase a second gift certificate of 50,000 Korean
Won issued by Gift Oil Company, the terminal 170 of another gift certificate exchange market transmits information of a second gift certificate (for example, Gift Oil Company as an issuing company and 50,000 Korean Won as a face value), which the user wishes to purchase, and the information of the user (for example, Kim Jin-gon, an account number and a password) to the cyber money calculation module 135 (171 step).
[52] The cyber money calculation module 135 reads a current rate of the second gift certificate (for example, -2%) from the current rate database 131 on the basis of the received information of the second gift certificate (for example, Gift Oil Company and 50,000 Korean Won), calculates a second cyber money (for example, 49,000 Korean Won) to be exchanged on the basis of the information of the second gift certificate (for example, Gift Oil Company and 50,000 Korean Won) and the current rate of the second gift certificate (for example, -2%), subtracts the second cyber money (49,000 Korean Won) from the cyber money (for example, 97,000 Korean Won) reserved in the user account of the user account database 133 and reserves the balance (48,000 Korean Won) in the user account of the user account database 133.
[53] The cyber money calculation module 135 transmits at least one of whether the second gift certificate is issuable and the second cyber money (49,000 Korean Won) to the terminal 170 (173 step). Therefore, when Kim Jin-gon receives the second gift certificate of 50,000 Korean Won issued by Gift Oil Company in the gift certificate exchange market, Kim Jin-gon may purchase the second gift certificate of 50,000 Korean Won issued by Gift Oil Company for 49,000 Korean Won.
[54] Also, Kim Jin-gon may further issue a prepaid card or top up a prepaid card within the cyber money (for example, 48,000 Korean Won) reserved in the user account of the user account database 133.
[55] Also, a person who operates the service method and/or service apparatus using gift certificate information may separately settle the difference of the face value of the second gift certificate and the second cyber money.
[56] Therefore, Kim Jin-gon may exchange his first gift certificate of Gift Department
Store for the second gift certificate of Gift Oil Company. Also, Kim Jin-gon may freely
exchange his first gift certificate of Gift Department Store for a prepaid card of the C Company, a telephone card of the D Company, a book gift certificate of the E Company and a culture gift certificate of the F Company within the cyber money left in his account. Thus, the negotiability of the gift certificate is increased.
[57] Further, the cyber money calculation module 135 receives price information of goods, which the user wishes to buy, input through an affiliated store terminal 190 and the user information (191 step). The affiliated store terminal 190 includes a computer (for example, on-line payment module), a card reader, a mobile terminal (for example, PDA) and the like.
[58] The cyber money calculation module 135 judges whether cyber money corresponding to the received price information is payable from the cyber money reserved in the user account of the user account database 133 on the basis of the received user information and transmits the result of the judgment to the affiliated store terminal 190 (193 step).
[59] Thus, the cyber money calculation module 135 subtracts the cyber money corresponding to the price information from the cyber money reserved in the user account of the user account database 133 on the basis of the received user information, stores the balance in the user account database 133 and transmits the payment result to the affiliated store terminal 190 (193 step).
[60] Therefore, a member or a user of this service can purchase goods or use services over on-line/off-line using the cyber money reserved in his (or her) account. Consequently, from the view point of gift certificate issuing companies, the negotiability of gift certificates is increased.
[61] From the viewpoint of gift certificate owners, it is possible to prevent degradation in value of gift certificates caused by insolvency of gift certificate issuing companies, to dissolve the inconvenience in keeping actual gift certificates and increase utility and market value of gift certificates.
[62] From the viewpoint of affiliated stores, it is possible to deal with gift certificates without any separate contract with gift certificate issuing companies, thereby causing increase in sale through customer attraction and use of gift certificates.
[63] For example, both the terminals 110 and 170 produce the corresponding input frames 200, 200' and 400 by means of their client programs. The information input into the produced input frames 200, 200 and 400 is transmitted to the server 130 by the client programs. Therefore, the client programs interchange some information with the server.
[64] The embodiments of the present invention may be constructed into programs which can be operated in a computer system. Also, corresponding programs read from a record medium which is readable by a computer that has the above-described programs
installed can be operated in a digital computer system. The record medium includes magnetic storage media (for example, ROM, floppy disks, hard disks etc.), electronic storage media (for example, semiconductors, IC chips etc.), optical reading media (for example, CD-ROM, DVD, etc.) and carrier waves (for example, transmission through internet)
[65] While the invention has been described with reference to preferred embodiments, it is not intended to be limited to those embodiments. It will be appreciated by those of ordinary skilled in the art that many modifications can be made to the structure and form of the described embodiments without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention. Industrial Applicability
[66] As described above, the present invention can be used in the electronic commerce field or service apparatuses, in which the value of gift certificates is estimated in terms of money, the estimated value is reserved in the form of cyber money in an account of a user and the reserved cyber money is used as means for exchange and payment, like cash.
